PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN BRASILIA COMMEMORATES THE 128TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PROCLAMATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

Brasilia - The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia commemorated the 128th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence on 14 June 2026 together with the Filipino Community.

Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Patrick John U. Hilado led the Embassy officers, staff, and members of the Filipino community in a flag-raising ceremony held at the Embassy grounds. The program also featured the Independence Day messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro.

In his remarks, Ambassador Hilado highlighted the importance of this year’s theme, which focuses on history, freedom, and the future. He underscored the enduring value of honoring the sacrifice and bravery of the nation’s forebears who fought for independence.

The Ambassador paid tribute to generations of Filipino heroes – past and present – who continue to defend freedom and contribute to nation-building. He emphasized that “the defense of our freedoms is a living, breathing collective responsibility of the present generation… and that true freedom, in its deepest sense, is about the presence of justice, dignity, and opportunity for every Filipino.”

Ambassador Hilado also noted the significant progress in Philippines-Brazil relations, as both nations mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year. He encouraged the Filipino community in Brasilia and across Brazil “to actively strengthen our people-to-people connections” and “work together to nourish the ties that advance our collective interests.”

The celebration also featured songs Baklikbayan and Kalesa by Mr. Emmanuel Santos, spouse of ATN Officer Cecilia Santos.

The program concluded Filipino games – including Philippine trivia, tumbang preso, and pabitin – followed by a Filipino lunch shared among attendees.
