Ambassador Betita joins ASEAN Heads of Mission in Visit to Pernambuco, Brazil

Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Eva G. Betita, joined the other ASEAN Heads of Mission in Brasilia in their visit to the state of Pernambuco, Brazil from June 20 to 23, to promote closer relations between the ASEAN Member States and Pernambuco.

Pernambuco is the second largest economy in the northeast, and the 10th largest in the whole country.  The economy is based on agriculture (sugarcane, manioc), livestock farming and creations, as well as industry (alimentary, chemical, metallurgical, electronic, textile), and has the fifth highest production of sugarcane in Brazil.  The state is also host to International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), a port management company of the Philippines.


The Heads of Mission of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam visited the Suape Port and met with Pernambuco Governor Eduardo Campos, Caruaru City Mayor Jose Queiroz de Lima and Federation of Industries of Pernambuco (FIEPE) Vice President Josias de Oliveira Filho in the three-day familiarization tour.

A follow-up to the visit will be hosted by Mr. Luiz Piauhyalino, where Senators and Deputies will be in attendance to meet with the ASEAN Heads of Mission in Brasilia.  END
