PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR MARIO F. CHAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT BOLSONARO ON 10 FEBRUARY 2022

10 February 2022, Brasilia – Philippine Ambassador Mario F. Chan presented his credentials to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro today at the Planalto Palace, and conveyed the assurances of sincere friendship of Pres. Duterte to Pres. Bolsonaro, as well as the that of the people of the Philippines to the people of Brazil. Amb. Chan also conveyed to Pres. Bolsonaro that he will exert his utmost effort to further strengthen and expand the friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and Brazil.

An immediate connection was struck between Pres. Bolsonaro and Amb. Chan as both were former high-ranking members the uniformed armed service of each other’s countries. The Brazilian President warmly hugged the Philippine Ambassador, as brothers in the army would do upon meeting each other.

Ambassador Chan highlighted to Pres. Bolsonaro the recent delivery of six Super Tocano aircraft from Brazil to the Philippine Air Force, and that these aircraft are now in active service. Likewise mentioned by the Ambassador is current interest in the Philippines to engage with Brazil in joint ventures for production of materiel in the defense sector.

Pres. Bolsonaro mentioned that Brazil is proud of the Super Tocano which is found in active service in several other countries across the world. He positively conveyed his pleasure to hear from the Ambassador the burgeoning relationship between the Philippines and Brazil in the area of defense cooperation.

Foreign Minister França briefly touched upon the other aspects of the bilateral relationship between the Philippines and Brazil, including the reciprocal promotion of trade and investments. He said that the bilateral trade relationship is growing, but there is great potential for further increase. In the area of investments, the Foreign Minister spoke about Brazil’s contentment with the Philippine investments in the ports in Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro, and that there are many more investment opportunities through the Brazilian Investment Partnership Program.

 

At the end of his message, the Philippine Ambassador conveyed appreciation to Pres. Bolsonaro for the kind hospitality extended by his country to members of the Filipino community that have made Brazil their second home.
