07 December 2021, Brasilia – Philippine Ambassador-designate Mario F. Chan presented an open copy of his credentials to Ambassador Fernando Simas Magalhaes, Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs (Vice Minister or Undersecretary level), Brazilian Ministry of External Relations (MRE) on 07 December 2021 at the Itamaraty Palace. The undersigned was accompanied by Minister Leilani S. Feliciano who had served as former Charge d’ affaires, ad interim of the Philippine Embassy.
Prior to the presentation of the open copy of credentials, PH Ambassador Chan was greeted by the Head of Ceremonial, Minister Alan Coelho De Sellos who briefed him on the Brazilian Government’s rules regarding newly-arrived Ambassador-designates and the possible dates for the undersigned’s Presentation of Credentials to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Minister De Sellos informed that the schedule of the Presentation of Credentials ceremony will be confirmed in due course.

Afterwards, PH Ambassador Chan, accompanied by Head of Protocol, Minister De Sellos and Minister Feliciano, proceeded to the Office of Secretary-General Magalhaes where he was warmly greeted by Ambassador Marcia Donner Abreu, Secretary for Bilateral Negotiations for Asia, the Pacific and Russia, MRE, who also served as the head of the Brazilian delegation during the recently-concluded 5th Philippines-Brazil Bilateral Consultative Mechanism (BCM) Meeting held last 13 September 2021 via videoconference. They had a brief conversation during which pleasantries were exchanged.

MRE Secretary-General Magalhaes welcomed the undersigned and the presentation of the open copy of credentials was held formally where both posed for official photos. Everyone was then ushered into the room of the Office of the Secretary-General for the meeting. The meeting was attended by the undersigned, Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs Magalhaes, Ambassador Donner Abreu, Minister De Sellos, Minister Feliciano and an assistant of Ambassador Magalhaes.
During the meeting between PH Ambassador Chan and Secretary-General Magalhaes, the two officials discussed matters of mutual concern and interest for the further enhancement of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brazil. END
