PH Ambassador to Brazil leads Independence Day flag-raising ceremony

Ambassador Marichu Mauro led the flag-raising during the Filipino community celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 9 June 2019 at the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia.

Around 75 Filipinos gathered together to celebrate Independence Day at the Philippine Embassy, a significant number given that there are only an estimated 100 Filipinos working and living in Brasilia.

After the flag-raising ceremony, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Teodoro Locsin, Jr.’s Independence Day message was read to the Filipinos gathered.

Ambassador Marichu Mauro also gave a brief address to the Filipinos in attendance. She talked about “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan” which was the theme of this year´s celebration.

Brasilia PE also honored some members of the Filipino community for their outstanding service to the community and for upholding Filipino pride wherever they are. Former Honorary Consul General Consuelo Acosta was also given a Plaque of Recognition for her service to the Filipino community in Colombia.

A seminar on Basic Financial Literacy, Pag-Ibig and Philheath was also held to give further meaning and purpose to the Independence Day celebration.

Brasilia PE served a hearty lunch of Filipino cuisine favorites such as caldereta and chicken barbecue. Traditional Pinoy games ensued right after the meal.
