Honorary Consul General of Pernambuco Pays Courtesy Call on PH Ambassador
Ambassador Marichu Mauro received today the Honorary Consul General of the Philippines in the State of Pernambuco, Mr. Sergio Kano. They discussed the many ways Philippine interests could be further enhanced in the port city of Recife where he is based and in the entire state of Pernambuco.
Consul General Kano assured Ambassador Mauro of his assistance to expand Philippine interests including the promotion of welfare of Filipino nationals.
Pernambuco is located in the northeastern region of Brazil and is home to the largest and most modern facility for container operations in the northern and northeastern regions of the country, the Suape Container Terminal (SCT).
A dedicated container terminal, the Suape Container Terminal is fast becoming a hub for the region’s European-Latin American trade. It is managed by the Philippine company International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).
In October 2000, ICTSI participated in a bid to manage and develop the Suape Container Terminal (SCT) in Pernambuco, Brazil. In April 2001, the Port Authority declared ICTSI as the bid winner. The concession period is 30 years.
ICTSI’s presence in the State of Pernambuco is one of the most significant ties between the Philippines and Brazil.
