Philippine Ambassador Presents Her Letters of Credence to Brazilian President

PH Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Ms. Marichu Mauro, presented her letters of credence to the Brazilian President, H.E. Mr. Michel Temer at Planalto Palace on 25 April 2018.

Ambassador Mauro joined nine other ambassadors who also presented their letters of credence in a ceremony held at Brazil’s iconic presidential palace.

During her presentation, Ambassador Mauro conveyed the wishes Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of good health and prosperity of President Temer and the Brazilian people. President Temer expressed his wish to develop stronger ties between the two countries.

The ceremony ended with Ambassador Mauro descending the ramp of Planalto Palace flanked by Presidential Guards symbolically representing that she is officially the Philippine Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.

Planalto Palace is just one of the many iconic buildings to be found all over the Brazilian capital. The building was designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer and its inauguration on April 21, 1960 marked the official transfer of the capital of Brazil from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia.

The palace owes its name to the Brazilian Highlands (the term planalto meaning highland), specifically the Brazilian Central Plateau, where Brasília is located.
