PHL Embassy in Brasilia Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony and Annual Sportfest for Kalayaan 2016

The traditional Flag-Raising Ceremony and annual sportsfest kicked off the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia’s celebration of the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12 at the Embassy grounds in Brasilia, Brazil.

Led by Philippine Ambassador to Brazil, Jose D.R. Burgos, the Embassy personnel, members of the Filipino community and special guests raised the Philippine flag in the early Sunday morning followed by the recital of the Oath of Allegiance.

Ambassador Burgos and Consul General Ariz Severino V. Convalecer also read the National Day Messages of President Benigno S. Aquino III and Foreign Affairs Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras, respectively.

After the brief program, the guests were then treated to a customary Filipino breakfast of tapsilog, pandesal and coffee.

A short Zumba exercise marked the opening of the 2nd Palarong Pinoy sa Brazil. Four teams vied for trophies and medals in volleyball, badminton, tug-of-war, sack race and Pinoy Henyo. In the end, the Yellow Team led by Dra. Blesilda Mansilla Burgos bagged the over-all trophy.
