Phl Ambassador to Brazil Participates in Agribusiness Fair

BRA AGRI

Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Jose D.R. Burgos, as part of an international delegation of some 30 Ambassadors, diplomats and businessmen from 70 countries, attended the Expodireto Cotrijal Agribusiness Fair.

The international agribusiness fair was organized by Cotrijal Agricultural and Industrial Cooperative. The fair, covering more than 80 hectares of exhibition space, regularly draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Ambassador Burgos, together with the other VIP guests, were welcomed in Expodireto Cotrijal with a reception. During the reception, an awarding ceremony to recognize some of the past year’s leading contributors to the agribusiness sector also took place. The reception was graced with the presence of governor José Ivo Sartori of Rio Grande do Sul; mayor Teodora Berta Souilljee Lütkemeyer of Não-Me-Toque City, among other dignitaries.

The President of Cotrijal, Mr. Ney César Mânica; State Secretary Mr. André Nassar, representing the Minister of Agriculture, Honorable Cátia Abreu; State Legislative Chamber Speaker Silvana Covatti; and Mayor Lütkemeyer each delivered positive and hopeful remarks about the Expodireto Cotrijal, Rio Grande do Sul and the Brazilian economy.
Governor José Ivo Sartori, during his speech, acknowledged the members of the international delegation individually and thanked them for honoring the exhibit with their presence.

Ambassador Jose D.R. Burgos, together with the international delegation, also attended a dinner with Mayor Lütkemeyer held at the Centro de Tradição Gaúcha (Centers of Gaúcho Tradition) in Não-Me-Toque and hosted by the Lions Club of Carazinho. Guests at the dinner were entertained by local groups performing cultural dances that originated in Europe, particularly Germany and Italy, from whence came most of the original migrants to Rio Grande do Sul. At the end of the dinner, guests were gifted with seedlings of a herb used in the preparation of a popular Brazilian herbal drink, the chimarrão.

Ambassador Burgos, together with the Philippine Honorary Consul General Dr. Somchai Ansuj and the rest of the international delegation, attended a luncheon at the FeComercio-RS (Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of Rio Grande do Sul) Headquarters where they were able to network with local businessmen.

The international delegation’s trip concluded with a courtesy call at the Palácio Piratini, the Seat of the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, where Governor Sartori welcomed Ambassador Burgos and the rest of the international delegation of Ambassadors personally.
